James C. Helton


James C Helton served 3 years from 1846-1849 in Milledgeville Georgia for assault to commit murder.  Shot grocery store owner, James R Long, at store located half way between Dahlonega and Auraria Georgia on 1 Feb 1844.  James Helton paid for prosecution.  Calvin Helton (Bark Chicken), his Father, had also been in Milledgeville for stealing a horse.  Calvin was removed from prison in the Indian Removal 1838.  Calvin and Young Chicken, his Father, were taken to Tennessee and traveled by the steamboat Victoria to Oklahoma with Chief John Ross.
